Brief Background of Sierra Leone:

In 1990,Rebel war broke out in Sierra Leone and lasted over a decade.
The aftermath of this war was a complete devastation of
infrastructure, destruction of countless lives, numerous cases of
human rights violations ranging from rape, child abuse, the use of
child soldiers, to name a few. Though reacting very late, the
international organizations set up a special court that would try
those accused of the worst crimes against humanity in that country.
This court was deemed necessary as it would act as a model for trying
other world criminals like Sadam Husein. After visiting and
witnessing first hand, we decided to establish Ujima for Africa
Development in Sierra Leone.

In 2003 we applied for a USAID community grant that we narrowly
missed because of geography. Our work since then has been slow but impactful.

On our own, we have completed an administrative structure that is
multi-winged.With the completion of this building, we feel primed to
actually carry out our mission statement. Empowering war torn
countries around the world. Our one unique quality is that we lead by
example only. We have selected the small village of Moryorru as
recipients of our first project. Our programs are completely
replicable in other areas of Sierra Leone and consequently around the
world.
